This is an early demo of ‘Explosions and Guns’. Although it is fairly different in arrangement, tempo and structure to the final album version (see video below), I think it still retains the sentiment and overall feeling I intended for the song.
The song was originally demoed with an acoustic guitar before Karl came to me one day with the piano part. It was so beautifully naive and loose and just worked really well with the vulnerable vocal part. The last verse - which isn’t on the original demo - I actually wrote in church one Easter… this song really sums up what the album is about… it’s a really nice moment on the record.
